Prof. Dr. Gabriel Filippelli: Air Quality in Pakistan
An environmental scientist of international repute Professor Dr. Gabriel Filippelli conducted a seminar on “Air Quality in Pakistan: Interpreting Data and Improving Public Health Communication” followed by a workshop on “Air Quality Monitoring” at the Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education, Karachi. This personalized educational activity was organized by the American Institute of Pakistan Studies, Islamabad and Inter-University Consortium for the Promotion of Social Sciences. Dr. Filippelli discussed about Climate change and its impact on environment, He said, “Environment, Community and Health are interconnected that affect every individual”.
After the seminar he conducted a hands-on training workshop in which participants learned how to evaluate air pollution and acquired knowledge related to protecting human health from unsafe air quality. It is pertinent to mention here that Particular Matters (PM 2.5) are the chemical mixtures that effect Air Quality, result in serious health problems particularly respiratory diseases”
All Deans of the institute, the Registrar, the Rector Prof. Dr. Mukhtar, Faculty, Staff and Students participated in the seminar. An interactive session was held after both the sessions where Faculty, staff and students actively participated.
This educational activity was organized through joint efforts by Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Rector Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education and Mr. Murtaza Noor, Coordinator Inter-University Consortium, Pakistan.Besides several dignitaries, Director American Institute of Pakistan Studies Mr. Nadeem Akbar and advisor Shahzad Iqbal attended this educational activity and also joined in for theevening dinner. Educationists, Environmentalists, Distinguished guests met with Prof. Dr. Fillipelli on an evening dinner at the Gymkhana Club, Karachi organized at the day end.
